2008 Pirelli GTI Battery drain issue..
« on: November 10, 2015, 10:01:31 pm »
I have a 2008 Pirelli GTI that is suffering from a battery drain issue. It has a RNS510 head unit.
Can someone explain to me in simple terms what I need to do to resolve the drain issue please?
Thanks!

I believe it needs a later CAN Gateway to stop the battery drain.

A 2008 Golf should have a CAN Gateway compatible with the RNS-510. My 2008 Ed. 30 came with a CAN version L and a factory fitted RNS-510 version A, do you know what CAN does yours have?

The car came fitted with the rns-510 as standard. How would I find out what Can mine has?

You can search the net to see how to remove/replace the CAN, you'll find plenty of guides. Just mind that your car is RHD and I'm used to LHD cars. You can also do a scan with VCDS and check the CAN Gateway module to see which part number you see.

It the car came with RNS as standard then maybe the battery drain is unrelated?

Have you put a multi meter on the car to measure the parasitic draw on the car?

Turned out my battery was buggered...
Would my Pirelli have come with a Lion battery from the factory? I've replaced it with a Bosch version!

Doubt it very much. Pretty sure the originals are made by Varta.
